The program at a glance

 The aim of the program is to obtain a PhD degree according to the Doctoral Graduation Regulations of the GSLS (http://www.graduateschools.uni-wuerzburg.de/life_sciences). The program’s research topics cover different aspects of patient-oriented clinical research – including planning, conduct and analysis of therapeutic and preventive studies – as well as health service research and clinical epidemiology. Doctoral researchers will be expected to register with the GSLS and will complete a structured doctoral training program.

Requirements for an admission to the Clinical Sciences-Program at the Graduate School of Life Sciences

An excellent Medical Degree (MD thesis and “Staatsexamen”), or  the successful completion of a MSc in Clinical Research and Epidemiology or Public Health, or another comparable degree, or a medical degree completing a structured skill based qualification curriculum (e.g. Curriculum Clinical Research).

Requirements for an application for a Clinical Sciences-fellowship

  • An excellent Medical Degree (MD thesis and “Staatsexamen”), or  the successful completion of a MSc in Clinical Research and Epidemiology or Public Health, or another comparable degree, or a medical degree completing a structured skill based qualification curriculum (e.g. Curriculum Clinical Research).
  • proven excellent oral and written English proficiency (this will also be assessed during interview) and willingness to learn German (training provided).
  • For the remaining two years of doctoral training not covered by the fellowship, you will be expected to arrange and confirm the support from the PhD hosting institution of the University Hospital or the University of Würzburg (please provide details as to your plans as well as your research interests in the “Motivation”-Tab in the application platform).

Funding Amount

The fellowship will cover up to 12 months of salary (TV-Ä1)

Please note: In order to provide funding for the remaining years of the doctoral training not covered by the fellowship, you will be expected to confirm an envisaged coverage of remuneration by the PhD hosting institution of the University Hospital or the University Würzburg

Selection and admission decision for a Clinical-Sciences-fellowship

  • The MD/PhD Committee of the GSLS decides on the admission to the program and on a Clinical Science-fellowship.
  • After a preselection there will be  face-to-face interviews in Würzburg or via Skype from November 25 -30, 2015 for fellowship candidates.
  • If you have your own funding you can follow the GSLS's admission process.
